Board Report April 2021

During this ongoing time of social separation, members of the Board have appreciated the many connections we have been able to make with members and friends - from participation in various USNF social and social justice groups, to ‘coffee’ hour and newcomers ‘breakfast’ breakout room discussions, to connection and small group circles, and to stewardship conversations. Despite our separation, we see that our collective commitment to our community is as strong as ever. We are pleased that the annual stewardship campaign is progressing smoothly, and we applaud everyone’s participation in any and all roles many have fulfilled through this meaningful process; we extend our gratitude especially to the Stewardship Committee: Trish Allen, Patty Cowden, Craig Dreeszen, Michael Holroyde, Dave Nelson, and Jon Sass.

With glimmers of light beginning to break through at the end of the pandemic tunnel, we are hopeful that we can establish more in-person gatherings at the Society sometime in the fall. All summer services will be online. The Board, Janet, Pandemic Advisory Council, and Worship Committee are engaging in discussions around processes for hybrid Sunday morning worship. Our planning is guided by our collective thoughts on questions such as: What do we value and regard in worshipping both virtually and in-person? How can we best create authentic inclusivity? What opportunities does hybrid worship present?

With the arrival of spring, our thoughts turn towards two important annual events: our own USNF Annual Meeting and the General Assembly of the UUA. Save the date of Sunday, May 23 for our second virtual Annual Meeting (on Zoom, immediately following the service). Also for the second time, GA will be virtual. Those of us from USNF who attended last year were fortunate to have our spirits fed by world class speakers, as well as by engagement in worship and workshops together with other UUs from across North America. We also contributed to the democratic process of our national organization by participating in and voting on business items. See the announcement within this newsletter for information on this years’ assembly in late June.
