Outings & April Service Project

Hurray for Spring! Here is a picture of our March outing at the Smith MacLeish Forest in Whately. Spending time outside together has beenkids4 such a wonderful way to connect and explore the many beautiful spots in our area.

In April, we will head up to Turner's Falls for a Connecticut River clean up and a visit with the endangered shortnose sturgeon. April Theme: Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a way of befriending ourselves and our experience.”
                                                                      ~ Jon Kabat-Zinn

Our theme this month is very timely as many students go back to school and we all transition to the busy-ness of spring. We invite you to try out some mindfulness practices to help you appreciate the present moment, slow down, and befriend yourself. Try mindful eating, counting breaths, or a nature walk where you look for a rainbow of color.

Woodchuck
By Cameron Gray-Lee

He likes to call my back porch home,
Safe underneath a wooden dome.
Unwilling to go out too far,
Lest he be lunch for wolves who roam.

In summer, days are much too warm                         But then in spring the time has come!
For him to leave his wooden dorm.                            He’s surely seen my mom’s green thumb
Besides, to journey out and have                               In action, so, no longer glum,
The kitty chase him is a norm.                                   He quickly eats some basil, yum!
He takes a chance and steals some
He’ll peek his head out once or twice                          Tomatoes, but he’s not a dumb
In autumn if the weather’s nice                                  Woodchuck, so he makes like a drum
But other woodchucks tell him, he                              And beats it, back to where he’s from.
should rest, and he takes their advice.

The winter’s not a time for him
To venture, when the light is dim.
The owls will likely take advantage
If he goes out on a limb.
